Dear Students and Families,
Before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and all that ensued, the district was looking at expanding the Copper Academy for those students who felt they would benefit from personalized learning. As a team, we feel that expanding the Copper Academy to the magnitude we originally planned is not yet possible as we have not had time to visit other campuses, ask important questions, collect data, and formalize a plan that would be unique for our students. However, because we wish to offer every opportunity possible for our students where we feel we are equipped to do so, we will be allowing more students entrance into the Copper Academy on a limited basis for the 2020 - 2021 school year. What we have learned after piloting this program last year is that students who need a smaller environment and more 1:1 interaction with teachers did exceptionally well. We will be allowing students in the Anaconda High School to be a part of this program should they wish and as long as their parents are okay with them doing so. There will still be an application process and every student will be part of an interview with a parent or guardian to ensure they understand the expectations of the program.
It has been said numerous times, but I will reiterate, that the Copper Academy is not for every student. Students in this type of environment have to be self-motivated and want to be there for their own personalized education. The Copper Academy is not a diploma factory, trying to rush students through their high school experience. Rather, it is a different type of educational setting where students are encouraged to move at a pace conducive to their individual learning style. The program looks different for every student we have.
The district will be having a student and parent informational meeting on May 28, 2020, at 6:00 PM. This will be a Zoom Meeting with the following ID: 948 1074 1975. If you are interested in simply learning more about the Copper Academy or wish to be in it next year please try to attend. Students and parents are always welcome to ask questions regardless of whether or not they can make this meeting. For those wishing to enroll in the Copper Academy next year, we will explain the application process and how you can get this started.
Thank you and have a wonderful day!
