October 1, 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I write this letter to inform each of you that the Anaconda School District will be moving to remote learning from October 5th through October 16th. The reasoning is precautionary as we currently have twelve staff members who are out with another five pending test results. These individuals are primarily close contacts but still required to quarantine for the mandatory two week period which has led to us having to already send both staff and pods home. We have managed to the best of our abilities thus far but we simply do not have the staffing to continue to offer in-person learning until we resume school on October 19th. During this time all students should have a personal device to use. If not, you should immediately contact your child’s principal and make arrangements to pick one up. We also have hot spots available for those families that struggle with internet connectivity.
Teachers will still be teaching live lessons and streaming where applicable. Students who attend the Center of Excellence and the Copper Academy will still be required to attend in-person learning. This is simply because they have the staff to continue teaching their pods for the time being. Some students will be contacted and asked to attend in-person learning in order to meet state requirements. If you are not contacted then your child does not need to worry about attending in person.
The closure comes in the wake of a recent tragedy and may add to the stress and anxiety the students may be experiencing. I want to make sure that all families know that we have a crisis team available as well as counselors should you or your children need to come in and talk with anyone. COVID as well as recent events have brought about many changes and we at the district are very empathetic to this. Please, if you or your child is struggling do not hesitate to reach out. We are always here to help. We have a wonderful staff and group of educators who care about your children.
During our remote learning, we will continue offering breakfast/lunches for our students from 11:00 – 1:00 pm in the following locations: Opportunity Park, T. Peters Day Care, Cedar Park Homes, Mount Hagen Park, West Valley, The Discovery House, Head Start, as well as a pick-up option at Lincoln, FMIS, and the Junior/Senior High School.
Please understand that we want to see our students at school each and every day. We will be taking this time of remote learning to also do a deep cleaning at each of our facilities in hopes that as staff and students return we are able to keep them here for the duration of the school year. With COVID has also come the fact that we are trying to be ever mindful of the state of our community and the people who live in it while offering a quality education. Our teachers have prepared for this and we are confident that we can handle anything that comes our way.
Should you need any type of assistance please reach out at any time. Thank you all for your support and understanding.
