Today at approximately noon the district was made aware of a threat made toward the school district. The district followed its lockdown procedural safeguards as they pertained to a threat outside of the buildings. The district was in close contact with local law enforcement the entire time and worked in conjunction through the remainder of the school day. As the afternoon progressed the threat was deemed to be minimal; however, out of safety protocol there will be no afterschool activities for the afternoon and sporting events have all been postponed. Students will be released as per normal today. If you would like to arrange pickup of your child before the typical pick up time please come to the school and call once you are in the parking areas and your child will be escorted to your vehicle.
As always we understand that some parents or members of the community may be upset that they were not notified sooner but the district focuses on the safety of its staff and students as its utmost priority. There are procedural safeguards in place for exactly these situations. Notifying parents at the time of discovery and based upon the type of threat would have potentially created a significantly larger threat. We thank you for entrusting us to take care of your children and we will always do everything within our power to ensure their safety.
